John Eberson architectural drawings, 1925-1930.

The John Eberson Collection comprises 100 original drawings documenting five of Eberson's architectural projects during the later half of the 1920s. Highlights include: 87 working drawings for four of the most significant "Atmospheric Theatres" designed by Eberson during the high point of the Theater extravaganza; a set of six rendered sections, signed J. Eberson, illustrating various designs for "Atmospheric, French Moderne and Italian Style" theaters. The collection contains one unusual group of drawings: seven sketches for the Golden Gate Bridge by Eberson, who may have acted as a design consultant to Joseph Strauss, Chief Engineer.

John Eberson attended the University of Vienna prior to immigrating in 1901 to the United States, where he was initially employed as a stage designer and painter. In 1909, he established an independent office. Working out of Chicago, Eberson designed over 100 theaters in the US and Europe, building a reputation as the premier "Atmospheric" theater designer of the time.
